0040. Rammstein – Sehnsucht [1997]

The first time I saw the video for Du Hast on MTV (yes, MTV actually used to play music videos), I was hooked.  I saw them live when they toured with Korn, Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube and Orgy back in 1998.  I was 15.  Imagine how awesome a Rammstein show can be for a 15-year-old freak.  Ever since, I’ve tried to see them every chance I could get.

For those who don’t know, this is German industrial metal… and it’s fuckin’ FANTASTIC!  As long as you have the capacity to enjoy music with vocals in a language that’s not your own (unless you’re actually German), I think you’ll find something to like on this album.  I love every track, including the singles.

Wikipedia Says:

Sehnsucht (German for “yearning”, see Sehnsucht) is the second album by German industrial metal band Rammstein, released on 25 August 1997.[1]

The album booklet folds out to reveal six different covers, one for each band member (each photo depicting the member with bizarre facial-wear made out of ordinary kitchen objects like spatulas, spoons, forks etc.). The cover most commonly seen featuresTill Lindemann with an egg-lifter worn as a muzzle and bent forks over his eyes worn as sunglasses. The cover art was created by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein,[2] who also created the cover for the Scorpions’ Blackout album, which is very similar to the Sehnsucht cover and even the forks in both covers are the same.Sehnsucht is the only album entirely in German to be certified platinum by the RIAA in the US.
